Elgar Birthplace Museum
National Trust Documentary
During Ruth's role as lead artist at The Firs (Elgar's Birthplace Museum), she co-produced Curating Elgar with the team at the Firs. She worked with over 200 participants aged three to ninety, in diverse community settings. The mission was to understand how to make Elgar relevant for a wide audience and how to communicate the international significance of this quaint cottage setting in Broadheath.
Following the workshops, we commissioned poet Kurly McGeachie to write a poem in response to the workshop outcomes and inspired by Elgar’s story. Ruth then composed the accompanying soundscape 'Elgar Energy' working with percussionist Tymek Jozwiak and sound engineer Simon Duggal.

This soundscape acts as an introduction to the interactive music trail that Ruth devised for the site, which encourages visitors to create their own soundscapes in the very garden which acted as Elgar's inspiration to compose.
